Professor Maurice Choo practices Cardiology and Internal Medicine at Farrer Park Hospital and Medical Centre. He is currently Adjunct Professor with the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (NTU and Imperial College). His subspecialty areas of focus are percutaneous coronary intervention, heart failure, valvular heart disease, lipid disorders and hypertension.

He completed his Residency in Cardiovascular Diseases at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. During his sabbatical year in 1995 as Consultant in the Cardiac Department at the Brompton Hospital in London, his fields of study were cardiac pathology and biomedical computing. For his doctoral studies leading to his MD (PhD), his thesis focused on Lp(a) and coronary angiographic disease. He is a Fellow of the Royal Colleges of Medicine of London, Edinburgh, and Glasgow.

Professor Choo was Founding Chief and Professor, Cardiac Department, National University Hospital, Singapore. While in the National University of Singapore, he was Professor of Medicine, Vice-Dean (Research), Chairman of the Medical Faculty Research Committee, Director of the National University Medical Institute, and Chairman of the Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) Examination Committee in the NUS School of Postgraduate Medical Studies.

In 1995, he left for private practice at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital, and shifted his practice to Farrer Park Hospital in 2014. He was appointed Adjunct Professor in the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (NTU and Imperial College) in 2013.

In the broader community, he was Chairman of the Review Committee for the National Neuroscience Institute, and Member of the Ministry of Health's Specialist Accreditation Board and Joint Committee for Specialist Training. He is a past President of the Singapore Cardiac Society, and Chairman of the Cardiology Specialty Board (Academy of Medicine). As Singapore's first nominated Member of Parliament, he was Parliamentary Member, Advisory Council on the Disabled and the Service Improvement Unit. He has been decorated with the title of Dato by the Sultanate of Brunei.

In healthcare, Professor Choo led the construction of the Clinical Research Centre building in the Faculty of Medicine, NUS. As Chairman of The Farrer Park Company, he planned and built Connexion, a unique building integrating a tertiary hospital, a 188-clinic specialist centre and a five star hotel. He is currently Chairman of the Farrer Park Hospital.
