Biographical Sketch

Mr Noel Cheah
is Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the National University Hospital (NUH), a member of the National University Health System (NUHS). He assumed this role in March 2009.

 

As COO of the 1,100-bed NUH that sees more than a million patients every year, his responsibilities cover many areas such as ambulatory services, inpatient ward operations, operating theatres, clinical support services, operational services etc. Mr Cheah also holds the concurrent responsibility of Quality Service Manager. In this role, he works in close partnership with the hospital’s Medical Board chairman in integrating quality, patient safety and service in delivering appropriate, safe and timely care for patients. He also plays a leadership role in developing sustainable long term plans and strategies for the hospital.

Prior to joining the healthcare sector, he pursued a career in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) where he held various senior leadership, staff and diplomatic positions. In his military service he has undergone officer and leadership training with the German Armed Forces as well as the New Zealand Defence Forces. For his services in the SAF, he was awarded the Public Administration Medal.

 

 

Mr Cheah graduated with an Honours degree from NUS, obtained a Masters in Defence Studies from the University of New South Wales /Australian Defence Force Academy and recently attended the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School.
