Biographical Sketch

Mr Um Chae-Ung is a well recognised figure in the world of Supply Chain. He won the coveted Procurement Leaders Award and led the LG Electronics team to win in the category of Procurement Transformation in the 2013 Procurement Leaders Asian Awards Program. In the same event, his team was also the first runner up for the Learning & Development category. Under his leadership, the LGE Procurement team won the 2013 Korea ISM & KAPSM Procurement Innovation Award.

In his role as LGE’s Vice President (CPO), Global Strategic Sourcing / Outsourcing for Digital Medical / Business Solution Company, he developed and implemented evolving global strategic sourcing strategies to increase the value of the global supply chain. As a Chief Procurement Officer of the respective companies, he developed a “Supply Management Vision” which became the foundation for the next five year goals for the company.

In his current role as Corporate Vice President for the Global General Procurement Office, he has been instrumental in building up general purchasing groups for entire LG Electronics Corporation from scratch ($8B+ spend). This includes redefining procurement roles and responsibilities as well as its infrastructures to maximise its spend leverage throughout LGE and other LG linked family member companies to bring about “Distinctive competitive advantage over LGE’s competitors”. 


Synopsis

SC 2 - LG Electronics’ General Procurement Transformation: Final Procurement’s Frontier for Global Innovation

Mr Um will provide an overview of LG Electronics, and how General Procurement plays an important part in LG Electronics. He will also share the transformation of General Procurement – the triggers and lessons learnt from this journey and the critical success factors for this transformation. He will touch on what the team can do differently and how they are propelled to continue to add value to the LGE Corporation.
