Mr. Malcolm BH Tan hails from Penang. He joined the Singapore Legal Service in 1993 and served in many roles, including as a Deputy Public Prosecutor and State Counsel, as District Judge and as Deputy Registrar of the Subordinate Courts. He was also the State Coroner for more than 2 years. Prior to his entering private practice, he was with the Insolvency and Public Trustee’s Office as Assistant Official Assignee/Public Trustee and Assistant Official Receiver where he dealt with, inter alia, bankruptcies, corporate insolvency matters and trusts.

Mr. Tan believes very strongly in the old adage that “Once a Scout, always a Scout”. He is currently active in the Scouting Movement at world, regional and national levels.

He is currently a consultant with City Law LLC and has delivered many talks locally and internationally on diverse topics running the gamut from the administration of criminal justice, insolvency, medico-legal issues to risk management and youth protection..

Before it goes to Court – Bring in the Mediator!
Medicolegal litigation has become increasingly complex, and the experience and inevitable publicity that surrounds such litigation can be a nightmare for any institution, doctor and patient. The presentation will touch on why mediation should the preferred dispute resolution mechanism for medicolegal disputes, the various options for mediation, and when (and whether) mediation may be compulsory. The speaker will end by sharing on how to prepare for medicolegal mediation.
