Biographical Sketch

Mr Kevin Tan is the Deputy Director with the Group Procurement Office in SingHealth. Having spent 13 years in Healthcare, he has covered various supply chain related portfolios, including leading the Group Procurement teams for Information Technology and Capital Equipment, as Head of Procurement for SingHealth Corporate Office, and also as Head of Procurement for the Materials Management Department at the Singapore General Hospital previously.

Currently, Mr Tan oversees a spend of more than US$50 million across the SingHealth Group, and another US$28 million for the SingHealth Corporate spend.

His key contribution in SingHealth is the set-up, and people development of the various procurement teams for Information Technology, Capital Equipment and the Corporate purchases. He brought new talents into the healthcare industry and help them become valued contributors to the organisation.

Prior to the healthcare industry, Mr Tan worked with government institutions such as the Productivity and Standards Board (now SPRING Singapore), JTC Corporation, and also multi-nationals corporations such as Phillips Petroleum (now part of Chevron) and the Times Mirror Training Group (now known as AchieveGlobal).

SC 5 - Attracting Talent into Public Healthcare Procurement

It is challenging enough to find talented people to go into procurement, not to mention Public Healthcare procurement, where the procurement process is more complex and personal risks are much higher. In this session, Mr Tan will discuss the various challenges faced by heads of procurement teams in recruiting motivated staff, and how there is a need to develop teams to adapt to the changing operating environment of the procurement function, in order to continue to be relevant to our organisations.
