Biographical Sketch

Mr Brent Johnson
is Vice President of Supply Chain & Support Services, Chief Purchasing Officer for Intermountain Healthcare based in Salt Lake City, Utah.  He is responsible for the $1.5 billion non-labour spend of the company that supports 23 hospitals and160 clinics.  He manages more than 600 employees who support the corporate functions of Warehousing, Strategic Sourcing, Purchasing, Material Systems, Couriers, Travel Services and Central Laundry.  He also oversees Clinical Engineering, Environmental Services, Food & Nutrition and Linen Management.

He has a passion for supply chain management and has over 30 years of senior management and consulting experience applying best practices. He has developed the supply chain strategies for three major companies in three industries that produced significant results.

He was hired in June 2005 as a result of a national search by Intermountain Healthcare to lead a new supply chain strategy for the company. In the past eight years, Mr Johnson has created an industry "top 25 Garner" Supply Chain Organisation which has achieved over $300m in savings (ranked #4 in 2013).

In 2012, Intermountain Healthcare opened a new Supply Chain Centre. It's a $40m, 325,000 sq. ft. complex with 350 employees under one roof. Additionally, there  is a state-of-the-art central distribution centre and large in-house courier service.

He has a MBA from University of Utah and he resides in Centerville, UT.



Synopsis


SC 1 - Connecting the Dots between Supply Chain and Patient Care

Does Supply Chain have an impact on “Patient Care” or is it just a business function inside healthcare?  Mr Johnson will demonstrate that Supply Chain is perfectly positioned at the intersection of cost, quality, and outcomes to not only make an impact but actually play a leading role.  He will review six areas of evidenced based waste in the healthcare supply chain.  Specific examples and case studies will be presented to demonstrate how supply chain processes, technology and transparency impacts cost, quality and outcomes. Patient-centered excellence requires teamwork, coordination and collaboration between Supply Chain and our Clinical partners. 

SC 8 - Supply Chain Best Practices in Healthcare

Mr Johnson will share his journey, as an outsider to healthcare, in building the #4 ranked (via Gartner) Supply Chain Organization in healthcare in the United States.  An emphasis will be placed on supply chain management best practices and how they are applied in healthcare.  Healthcare is very unique but it should not ignore the proven strategies, tools and templates used in all industries to manage the non-labor expenses of a company
